It emerges that
Google has been investing in “health research” under the terms “predict and prevent” and “inform and empower.”
Just as zombie migration patterns have been postulated on the Sentinel, it appears that larger groups could already be looking at ways to predict the likely spread and infection patterns and ways of preventing eventual defeat to the undead. In particular, $5m has been donated to a non-profit organisation “focused on improving early detection, preparedness, and response to global health threats.”
Preparedness is a watchword amongst those who are aware of the actual existence and threat of zombies. Is Google one of those in the know? Google Flu Trends uses data of people conducting flu-related searches to estimate flu activity in the US up to a fortnight more quickly than more traditional systems of prediction. Does it also estimate zombie activity in the same way?
Some of the Sentinel’s users might be interested to know that Google have also invested in a commercial personal genetics company. Gene modification is a definite theory for some as a means for reversing the effects of zombie infection. Google Health Service also now allows user to upload health information about themselves, such as prescriptions and history, possibly allowing interested parties to track any possible health-related patterns that can influence infection.
To have such a large player involved in the fight would surely benefit us but are Google really involved or are they too, ignorantly oblivious to a threat far greater than the everyday germs and bugs they appear to be interested in? It would be a disappointment, to say the least, if this were to be the case.
