Thailand - A cluster of decapitations in Yala province

We have received report that suspected separatists on Sunday shot dead and beheaded a couple at a plantation in Raman district of Yala province, 750 kilometres south of Bangkok. The perpetrators apparently decapitated the couple and took their heads away.

This was the second decapitation reported this month in Yala, part of the restive majority-Muslim region that also includes Narathiwat and Pattani provinces. On Friday, suspected separatists shot and decapitated two Thai soldiers who were on a motorcycle patrol in Yala's Sata district, leaving their heads 100 metres from their bodies.

While there is at this stage no suggestion that these episodes are part of an outbreak cover-up, we advise caution in the area and would welcome any further information regarding activity in this area or neighbouring regions.
